This was a Special Resolution Meeting which was scheduled by, and had its agenda set by the SGCA Former Board of Directors (pre-2024). This meeting was scheduled and correctly communicated to the membership on September 13, 2023.

September 22, 2023

On September 22, 2023 the SGCA Former Board of Directors (pre-2024) sent an email to the membership with the subject line “A Proposal for you to consider”. This email contained a PDF in which the SGCA Former Board of Directors (pre-2024) suggests (on the 4th page) that the SGCA membership consider postponing the September 27, 2023 Special Resolution Meeting.

There was much discord on Facebook regarding this, and at least 10 SGCA members wrote to the SGCA via email indicating that it was improper to cancel this Special Resolution Meeting once it was called

September 27, 2023

At 8:54 AM the SGCA Former Board of Directors (pre-2024) emailed a ‘reminder’ to membership.

The content of this email was as follows: “This email is to remind you that tonight’s meeting has been postponed until after the October 5 vote. “

This is the first email to membership of the SGCA Former Board of Directors (pre-2024) specific intent to postpone this meeting

At 6:45 PM more than 80 SGCA chose to members attend this meeting, and as per the bylaws and BC Societies Act, the membership waited 15 minutes for the SGCA directors to attend. When no directors were present after 15 minutes, the membership elected a temporary chair for the meeting, and proceeded to follow the agenda.

The SGCA Former Board of Directors (pre-2024) opened this CRT Dispute CS-2023-010154 regarding the September 27, 2023 meeting, and then went to the BC Supreme Court to have the SGCA shut down until the determination of a private defamation lawsuit that they had launched against four SGCA members.

This CRT Dispute CS-2023-010154 that had been opened by the SGCA Former Board of Directors (pre-2024) was quietly dropped in favour of the BC Supreme Court ruling.

In February 2024, the SGCA Former Board of Directors (pre-2024) changed their mind about the BC Supreme Court ordered shutdown of the SGCA; they discontinued that action and chose to hold an election on March 11, 2024 in which an entirely new SGCA Board of Directors was elected.
